Two Valley communities will benefit from a $13.7 million investment to hire and retain 112 Ohio law enforcement officers in 13 communities across Ohio.

According to U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown’s office, the Community Oriented Policing Services Hiring Program funds include $1,612,170 to the City of Youngstown to hire 15 law enforcement officers, and $750,000 to the Austintown Township Police Department to retain six police officers.

The investments come from the Department of Justice’s COPS Hiring Program, which invests in hiring entry-level career law enforcement officers to create and preserve jobs and increase community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts.

“We fought for these much-needed investments to ensure that law enforcement across the state can keep their communities safe. This will enable Ohio communities to hire, retain, and train dedicated officers to prevent crime and protect Ohioans,” said U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown.
