Youngstown woman handed sentence for running over, killing man
A Youngstown woman who ran over and killed a man back in October has learned her fate.
Shanay Jacobs was handed a sentence of six to nine years in prison followed by two to five years of post release control on a charge of of Voluntary Manslaughter.
Jacobs pled guilty to this charge back in August.
The charge stems from an incident from October of 2023 when Jacobs ran over and killed 30-year-old Nathaniel Watson.
Watson was found under a Ford Fusion parked in a yard on the 200 Block of South Schenley Avenue. Police were able to pull him from under the vehicle and performed life-saving measures on him, but he ultimately died from his injuries.
During sentencing, Watson's mother and cousin took to the stand to give emotional victim impact statements, but offered forgiveness for Jacobs.
Jacobs herself took the stand and read a letter of apology to Watson's family expressing regret for her actions.
