The fundraising arm of the Mahoning County Dog Pound is seeking donations to help pay for the care of a severely neglected puppy found in Youngstown and other dogs like him.

Friends of Fido reported on Facebook that a dog that they believe isn’t even one year old was found on East Indianola Avenue on the city’s South Side on Sunday.

The dog, who they have named “Gordy” is emaciated, dehydrated, and anemic.

In addition, they believe he has been suffering from the pain and irritation caused by mange.Fr

Mange is a highly contagious disease of dogs caused by mites.

The Facebook post makes the following plea:

Gordy is one of the countless dogs in need in our county right now. We are full. The humane society is full. The rescues and shelters are full. Not only are these dogs homeless but they are sick, injured, anxious, frightened…they are victims of this world. This is completely out of hand.

Please donate if you can. There is an incredible need right now with no end in sight. As always, we thank you.

Donations may be made online or mailed to the following address:

In addition to fundraising, Friends of Fido educates the public about the responsibility of pet ownership and promotes spay/neuter programs.

Funds are used to supply necessary medical care, veterinary and other expenses to give dogs a second chance at life.
