Poland Middle School and McKinley Elementary School have returned to normal operations following a gas leak in the area.

According to a "Bulldog Alert" from the school district, the gas leak was reported on Michigan Avenue near the school. Students have been evacuated to a secondary location.

The district says all students from both schools have been accounted for.

Poland Fire Chief David "Chip" Comstock tells 21 News the leak was caused by a FirstEnergy worker accidentally installing an electrical pole on the gas line.

Enbridge gas responded to work on the scene. People living in the surrounding areas were also asked to evacuate while the situation was addressed.

No alternative dismissal procedures will be necessary.
