Youngstown man charged with driving wrong-way on I-680 tells police he drank a bottle of wine
A Youngstown man told Youngstown Police that he drank a bottle of wine before they arrested him for driving the wrong way of Interstate 680.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol got a call after midnight Friday that a sedan was driving west in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 in Austintown.
Shortly after, 911 dispatchers say they received several calls that a car was going south in the northbound lane of I-680 and Meridian Road.
City Police found a Ford Fusion along the northbound berm near the Himrod Avenue interchange. Police say the car was parked in the opposite direction and had a flat tire.
According to a Police report, the 75-year-old driver, John Rosa Jr. of Youngstown, told officers he was coming home from his bowling night. “Yes, I drank a bottle of wine by myself,” Rosa told officers according to the report.
After unsuccessful attempts at a field sobriety test, Rosa was taken to YPD headquarters for a blood alcohol level test.
Police towed Rosa’s car and turned him over to a relative.
Rosa is scheduled to answer charges of OVI and driving the wrong way in Youngstown Municipal Court next week.
