Police investigating shooting death of man in Wellsville
An emotional Roberta Pratt at a loss for words, less than 48 hours after her son was shot and killed, a few blocks away from the Wellsville Police Department.
Police there received a call Monday night from an individual that heard an argument, followed by a gunshot. When they arrived they found 30-year old Robert Herron with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.
"People just don't understand that when you see a gun, that's final." said Pratt. "There's no I'm sorry. There is no tomorrow", she added.
Police say the victim and shooter knew each other but have several persons of interest, and looking at a number of charges. One of the individuals is in custody on an outstanding warrant.
"Well absolutely murder...and complicity with some people that might have helped.", said Lieutenant Marsha Eisenhart of the Wellsville Police Department.
Robert's mother tells 21 News that she's grateful for the community support but is urging people to put the guns down.
"You make that split-second decision and it ruins everybody's life. There's no reason for that.", Pratt emphasized.
Roberta says Robert loved the great outdoors whether it was fishing, or going for a walk. He also loved his dogs which were like children to him.
A vigil is being held near the McDonalds on Libson Street.
A gofundme has also been setup to help with funeral expenses.
