The first Mobile Market for Trumbull County is officially open. The group ACTION has partnered with other community organizations to provide easier access to food throughout the county.

“It is actually a grocery store on wheels,” Rose Carter, the Executive Director of ACTION said. “Everything. You get on, you shop. It's just as if you would go to Aldis

The truck is always loaded with fresh produce, drinks, milk, eggs, cheese and more. Some of the items will be cheaper than you can get at a real grocery store.

“By us getting the groceries from local farmers and local people where there’s not that overhead we’re able to save money and have our prices a little bit lower,” Carter said.

ACTION also gets donations from city and county leaders to help offset costs for the foods.

The ultimate goal of the Mobile Market is easier access. The truck makes stops at senior centers to reach those who can’t get to a store. They also plan their stops in food deserts to help communities that don't have stores for miles.

“This is going to address the lack of transportation issue as well as give them fresh, great, healthy choices that's going to produce great outcomes,” the Mayor of Warren, Doug Franklin said.

For some people, the Mobile Market is the only opportunity to buy fresh local foods in their area.

“There's a real desire and they will pay for quality, our community will pay for quality but it has to be accessible and it has to be convenient,” Mayor Franklin said.

ACTION has provided a mobile market in Mahoning County for months now. Carter said they hope to expand to Columbiana County in the future and open a brick and mortar store to offer fresh low priced groceries to everyone.
