Youngstown man indicted on charge of vehicular homicide after crash that killed a 12-year-old boy last November
A Youngstown man has been indicted on seven charges after a high-speed chase left a 12-year-old passenger dead and three injured after a crash last November in the city.
Brandon T. Kennedy, 31, was indicted on Thursday by a Mahoning County Grand Jury on charges of involuntary manslaughter (F1); aggravated vehicular homicide (F2); two counts of vehicular assault (F3); endangering children (F3) and driving under suspension (M1).
Kennedy was arrested in September by the US Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force for his alleged role in the deadly crash.
Kennedy was wanted by the Youngstown Police Department for aggravated vehicular homicide and aggravated vehicular assault after the car he was driving crashed into another vehicle, killing Kennedy's 12-year-old passenger.
On November 17, 2023, police say Kennedy was operating a motor vehicle while driving at a high rate of speed through a residential area of Youngstown and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Juanita Ave and Alameda Ave. in the city. Kennedy's vehicle struck another car as it passed through the intersection.
The Youngstown Police Department issued a warrant for Kennedy's arrest on Monday, and officers with the NOVFTF initiated a fugitive investigation. Within a day of the warrant being issued, Kennedy was arrested at an address on the 20th block of Broadview Ave in Girard.
U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “Tragically a 12-year-old was an innocent victim in this horrific incident. The first step in the pursuit of justice for that child occurred today when our task force took this fugitive into custody.”
