The Martin P. Joyce Detention Center in Mahoning County will soon be updating and improving its security standards.

It's made possible through $64,506 it recently received through the state's capital budget, which will help it align its security standards with the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act.

Specifically, it will go toward replacing cameras throughout the facility, according to a news release from State Rep. Al Cutrona.

"Maintaining safety and security at these facilities is critical for the youth and staff," Cutrona said. "We must create environments at these centers for youth to grow and prosper."

The Martin P. Joyce Detention Center is a county owned property located at the Mahoning County Juvenile Justice Center.

Earlier in the year, the detention center received money to replace a facility locking system.
