Eagle Produce LLC is recalling 224 cases of whole cantaloupe due to potential contamination with Salmonella. The recalled cantaloupes were distributed between August 13th and 17th in Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia.

The affected cantaloupes are under the brand name "Kandy" and have a UPC number code of 4050 and a lot code of 846468. They are identified by a red and white sticker with "KANDY" across the top.

While no illnesses have been reported to date, Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.

Customers who have purchased the recalled cantaloupes are urged to discard them immediately and not to eat them.

The recall was initiated following routine sample testing conducted by the State of Michigan, which revealed the presence of Salmonella in the cantaloupe.
