The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is inviting the public to review and comment on plans for the replacement of the South Dock Street Bridge (Route 718) over Pine Run in the City of Sharon.

The project aims to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility.

The existing bridge, a single-span steel I-beam structure built in 1923 and reconstructed in 1990, is currently classified as being in poor condition.

The replacement project, slated for construction in 2026, will involve the installation of a concrete box culvert and the replacement of curbs, medians, and sidewalks on the bridge's eastern approach.

To minimize traffic disruptions during construction, PennDOT will utilize a temporary runaround. Construction of the runaround will necessitate the removal of a portion of the existing curb and center median. The runaround will extend through the industrial parking lot on the project's western side and will include a designated pedestrian detour.

The project introduction and public comment period aim to gather public input and address any concerns regarding the project's impact. Additionally, the public can review and comment on the project's potential effects on cultural resources.

The online comment period for the South Dock Street Bridge Replacement project will be open until September 20, 2024. Individuals without internet access can provide feedback by contacting PennDOT Project Manager Kyle Barker at [email protected] or 814-678-7166.

The public can access project information, including a handout, detailed plans, and an online comment form, by visiting the PennDOT District 1 website (https://www.penndot.pa.gov/RegionalOffices/district-1) under the "Design and Construction Projects" link.
