Fall events around the Mahoning & Shenango valleys
While summer doesn't officially end until September 22, fall events and pumpkin-flavored drinks, desserts and more are now in full swing beginning this weekend.

Here are some fall events taking place.
September 23 - October 29
- Fall activities at Detwiler Farms: Beginning September 23 and lasting through October 29, Detwiler Farms in Columbiana will be hosting fall activities every Saturday and Sunday. These include hayrides, picking out your own pumpkins, corn and straw mazes, a play area, a petting zoo and more. Apples and apple cider are also available. Hayrides are $7 per person and pumpkins are 45 cents per pound.
September 28
- 10 am - 5 pm: East Palestine Merchant Fall Fest. Shop at local stores, and enjoy the kids activities, food trucks plus local eateries, guess the number game.
- 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.: No Tricks, Just Treats Halloween Craft Fair: This event will take place at the Metroplex Expo Center in Girard. The event costs $5 to attend and kids in costumes can fill their trick or treat bags as they walk through the show.
- 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Touch a Truck at the Liberty Library: This event will take place in the Parking Lot of the Liberty Township Library on Churchill Hubbard Road and will feature multiple different trucks for guests to see up close.
September 28 - October 27
- 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.: Fall activities at Detwiler Farm: Starting September 28 and lasting until October 27, Detwiller Farm in Beaver Township will have all of its annual fall activities for the family to enjoy. This includes hayrides to the farm's 10-acre pumpkin patch, a four-acre corn maze, a straw maze, a petting zoo and tractor tire play area. There will be fall decorations, apples and cider for sale. These activities will happen every Saturday. The farm will also be open from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Friday October 11.
September 29
- 12 pm - 6 pm: Annual Fall Festival at Webb Winery. 3180 E. State Street, Hermitage, PA. Vendors, food, beer, wine slushies and special sales at the winery.
- 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.: Boardman Rotary Oktoberfest: This event will take place at Boardman Park and will feature food, entertainment, crafts and much more. Admission is $5 with the proceeds benefitting Boardman Rotary Club programs and efforts throughout the area.
October 3
- 5:30 pm. Animal Welfare League Designer Purse Bingo. DiVieste’s Banquet Centre, 745 N. River Rd NW, Warren. Buffet-style meals and a cash bar, with bingo starting at 7 pm. Basket raffles, 50/50 and lottery tree raffle tickets. Entry tickets are $50 per person, or a table of eight for $400. Designer name purses include Tory Burch, Kate Spade, Michael Kors, and Coach.
October 4-5
- 5:30 p.m.: Wicked Weekend at Elm Road Triple Drive In: This weekend-long event will feature trunk or treat, a trunk decorating contest and spooky movies on all three screens. The movies being shown have not been revealed yet. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. both nights.
October 5
- 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Whole Life Services Fall Fest: This event will take place at 1565 E State Street in Hermitage and will feature food, a gift basket auction, giveaways, kids' activities, music and vendors. Proceeds will benefit activities, supplies and community outings. Mini donut sales will benefit Whole Life Gives, which supports local non-profits and organizations.
- 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.: S'mores Under the Stars: This event will take place at the Trumbull County Metroparks Office on North River Road in Warren. All ages are welcome to enjoy s'mores and spooky stories by the fire. This event is absolutely free to attend.
- 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.: Fall Festival on the Canfield Green: This event will take place on the Canfield Green and will feature food trucks, live music, games, pumpkin decorating and more fall activities.
- 2 p.m. - 9 p.m.: Witch Walk on Main. South Main Street, Columbiana. An immersive experience that transports attendees into a world of sorcery, laughter, and awe-inspiring creativity. With an array of bewitching activities, attendees can revel in a full day of festivities, including spellbinding contests, mystical quests, and unearthly contests.
- Noon: Animal Charity of Ohio Howloween Party: This event will take place at Masters Pavilion in Boardman Park. Admittance is free, but there is a $10 fee to enter your dog into the costume contest. In addition to the costume contest, there will also be raffles, food trucks and games.
October 6
- 2 p.m.: 12th Annual Blind Pumpkin Taste: This event will take place at Vintage Estate Wine & Beer in Boardman and will feature 13 different pumpkin beers. Guests can sample them all and vote for their favorite. Admission is $35 and tickets can be purchased either in person or online.
October 12
- 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.: Spooky Stories: This event will take place at the McKinley Birthplace Home and Research Center in Niles. Children aged 5-11 years old can come out and create their own spooky stories. Registration is required for this event. You can register by calling 330-652-1704 and selecting option 4.
- 5:30 pm: Saint Patrick's Funny Fundraiser, 357 North Main Street, Hubbard. Doors open at 5:30 pm; Appetizers at 6 pm; Showtime 7 pm. Headlining the comedy show will be David Kaye; with Suzanne Lawrence and hosted by Trey McDonough. Must be 21 years old or older. 50/540 raffle. lottery tree. $30 per person. - 8 p.m. - 9 p.m.: Nightlights 50th Anniversary: This event will take place October 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26 from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Ward Beecher Planetarium at YSU. There will also be an earlier show on October 26 from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Costumes are welcome and the event is suitable for all ages.
October 13
- Noon - 4 p.m.: “This Is Halloween: Crafts & Sweets Market,” Café Rosé, 4491 Mahoning Avenue, Austintown — a pet costume contest. Local artisans, makers, and bakers will sell ghoulish treats and crafts. Fall-themed items will also be available.
- Noon - 3 p.m.: Howloween at Mosquito Lake Dog Park: This event is geared towards dogs and will feature food, vendors, a basket raffle and a costume contest.
October 14
- 2 p.m.: Cemetery Walk: This event will be hosted by the Niles Historical Society at the Niles Cemetery. Guests can learn about the history of prominent area residents from years past. The event is free and open to the public.
October 19
- 12 p.m.: The Open in Downtown Youngstown: This is a live music festival to celebrate the the reopening of downtown Youngstown following construction from the SMART2 Project and the explosion at the Realty Building. It will feature multiple artists from multiple genres, as well as family-friendly entertainment. You can read much more about The Open here.
- Noon - 5 p.m.: 5th Annual Back the Blue at the Canfield Green: This event will take place at the Canfield Village Green Gazebo and will feature a bike rally to the Green from the Manor, a memorial service for fallen police officers, a car show, a craft show, a kids area, food and retail vendors and live music from The Youngstown Houseband.
- 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Youngstown Saxon Club's Annual Craft Show: This event will take place at the Youngstown Saxon Club on South Meridian Road and will feature crafts, a basket raffle, a 50/50, food and more.
- 1 p.m. - 8 p.m.: Pumpkin Carve Out Contest: This event will take place at Boardman Park October 19 and 20. Guests can carve their spooktacular Jack-O-Lanterns with prizes available in different age categories from kids to adults. The cost is $5 per pumpkin. All pumpkins will be on display through October 31.
- 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.: Pumpkin carving at Fellows Riverside Gardens: This event will take place in the Cushwa Outdoor Pavilion at Fellows Riverside Gardens. Guests can carve pumpkins to be displayed at the annual Pumpkin Walk. The event is free and no registration is required.
October 20
- 8 a.m.: Boo Bash Dash Family Run / Walk: This event will take place at Howland Township Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the run and walk itself kicks off at 9 a.m. In addition to the run and walk, there will also be outdoor activities and Halloween candy. Costumes are encouraged. October 24
- 6 p.m.: Witches Night Out: This event will take place at Maison de Savon Bath, Body and Beauty in Howland and will feature plenty of fall and Halloween-themed vendors, food trucks, music, a basket raffle and more.
- 5:30 p.m.: Trunk or Treat at TCTC: This free trunk or treat event will take place at the Trumbull County Career and Technical Center. Costumes are encouraged.
October 25
- Noon - 3 p.m.: Calamityville Murder Dinner Theatre, Best Western Plus Dutch Haus Inn & Suites, Columbiana, Celebrate Halloween with a fun “who-dun-it,” be part of the show and enjoy uproarious laughter, mystery and more than a few surprises. Makes a great afternoon or night out for social groups, families and friends. Also showing at 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- 6 p.m.: Ghosts of Packard Passed Fundraiser: Guests at this event can enjoy a spooky tour led by the Grim Reaper and meet ghosts of the Packard family and their friends and hear the moans and protests of their prior lives. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the tour starts at 7 p.m. A Halloween party will immediately follow the tour. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children under the age of 12. - 5:30 p.m.: Trunk or Treat: This event will take place at 3771 Mahoning Ave. NW in Warren and will feature bounce houses, surprise snacks, prizes for the best costume and best decorated trunk, raffles and more.
October 26
- 5 p.m. - 6 p.m.: Night at the Museum: This event will take place at the Ward Thomas Museum in Niles. Kids in kindergarten through third grade can come out and listen to a spooky story, followed by a candlelit tour of the Ward Thomas House. The night will end with apple cider and cookies. The event is absolutely free, but reservations are required. You can make a reservation by calling 330-652-1704 and selecting option 4.
- 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.: Monster Mash Basket Raffle: This event will take place at Davidson's Restaurant and Tavern in Canfield. All proceeds from the basket raffle will benefit All Paws Are Perfect Dog Rescue.
- 4 p.m. - 10 p.m.: Fireman's Fall Festival: This event will take place in the brick pavilion at East Palestine Park and will include trunk or treat, hayrides, a bonfire with s'mores, a movie, free hot dogs and chips, hot chocolate, a witch's dance and a costume contest.
October 27
- 1 p.m.: Kids Costume Contest at One Hot Cookie in Boardman: Kids are encouraged to come out and show off their creative Halloween costumes. Prizes will be awarded to the top three contestants. This event is absolutely free.
- 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.: Apple Butter and Cider Breakfast: This event will take place at the Mosquito Lake Beach Pavilion in Cortland. Guests can enjoy a pancake breakfast and learn how to make apple butter and apple cider.
- 1 p.m.: Niles Halloween Parade: The parade kicks off at 1 p.m. and will go from Federal to State Street. Spectators are asked to line up on Main Street.
October 28
6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.: Windsor House Trick or Treat: Kids can stop by Windsor House on Churchill Hubbard Road in Liberty Township for a free trick or treating event.
October 29
- 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.: Haunted Trivia at the McKinley Memorial Museum: This event will test your knowledge on all kinds of spooky topics like horror movies, haunted history, Halloween fun facts and all other things spooky and scary. Participants ages 12 and over can register as an individual or as a team. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams. Registration is required and can be done by calling 330-652-1704 and selecting option 3.
November 2
- 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.: Birds in Flight Sanctuary Fall Fest: This event will take place at Birds in Flight Sanctuary in Canfield and will feature vendors, music and food, as well as the opportunity to meet the sanctuary's animals and learn about its operations. There will also be raffle baskets, a 50/50 and much more. Admission is $5.
