At the 178th Canfield Fair ends 4-H kids and teens won't be getting a big break.

Instead the day they get home work continues for next year's fair.

Whether it's the ponies that caught your eye, or the pet rabbits raised by 4-H members, the kids and teens who take part do work each day to bring you the best in Breed.like this Netherland Dwarf raised by Scarlette Salvatore.

"It's really fun and I really enjoy it, but there is a lot of work to do all of this, and most people don't realize that. They just realize that people are out here with their animals. It is a lot of responsibility being out here at 6:00 in the morning, every morning taking care of these animals," Scarlette said.  "Yes, staying here all day until 8:00," her mom added

When Scarlette takes her rabbit home the work begins for next year's Canfield Fair.

Members of 4-H not only compete, but they answer kids and adults questions.

When they go home, work begins for next year's fair.

Some projects for beef breeding take years of work, and even includes washing the cows to get them fluffy and clean for the fair.

Laylah won Grand Champion for her cow calf pair.

"You bring a calf one year, then the next year you bring it back as a heifer feeder, and you bring it back the next year as a bred mom, and the next year you have a cow calf pair, so I would bring mom and the baby that she had that year," Laylah said.

"You have to get them veterinary care when needed. You have their vet check before they come to the fair to make sure everything is ok, to make sure they pass it, and just everything that goes into them. Feeding and watering is a daily need to stay alive," Laylah added.

As families load up their animals to leave they are proud of the work their children do.

They say 4-H helps develop a great work ethic the kids and teens will carry with them as they grow into adults no matter what careers they choose in life.

"It really teaches them responsibility. This is a year around project. We start this immediately after the fair and we go all year long until fair time," Kaylah emphasized.
