\As the need for more nurses continues to grow, Laurel Technical Institute (LTI) in Pennsylvania is working to do something about that.

LTI, a private, post-secondary specialized associate degree-granting career and technical education provider, recently announced a new one-year nursing program beginning Oct. 30, according to a news release from the organization.

Students will learn current industry skills in a new simulation lab before they start their direct client care clinical that are coordinated and supervised by Laurel's faculty and local partners.

The simulation lab will provide hands-on experience to prepare students for certifications, critical thinking and patient care.

"Our program provides an interactive learning environment and incorporates a strong foundation of clinical experiences in long term, acute and primary care settings," said Kristen Prezioso, director of practical nursing for LTI. 

The program goes for 12 months and will be offered to students in Hermitage and the surrounding area.

Curriculum for the program includes courses in Nutrition Therapy, Fundamentals of Nursing, Human Growth & Development, Medical Surgical Nursing, Certification prep and more.

Additionally Laurel Technical Institute has established healthcare affiliations with St. Paul's Senior Living Community, UPMC Horizon and Jameson, Magee-Womens Hospital, Independence Health System, as well as Shenango on the Green for students.

The program will be offered at LTI's 2370 Broadway Ave location.
