As Steward Health facilities around the Valley hang in a state of uncertainty, the company itself and other locals hospitals are working together to try to make sure their employees have options.

Employees at Steward Health facilities are anxious about their future. With no clear answers as to whether the hospitals will close, the Valley's two hospital systems are working together on a series of job fairs.

"It's important for me to welcome people that have worked here in the Valley [and] have given there life's work to this Valley. [We want to give them] opportunities to stay here and work here if they want to take advantage of some of the opportunities that we have." Charlotte Gardiner, Mercy Health St. Joseph Warren Hospital's president told 21 News.

Steward is tentatively planning it's own, in-house job fairs for next month, should they be necessary in a worst-case scenario.

A spokesperson for Steward says the goal is to make sure current Steward employees can meet with other companies in case a closure cannot be averted.

The variety of positions Mercy Health is offering has been meet with criticism from the Trumbull county commissioners office and Warren city council, saying Mercy Health has been too aggressive. But Gardiener says that's not the case, they are simply looking to help the employees.

"We need to be available for people that are very worried [and] very concerned about preserving their livelihoods [and] about meeting the needs of their own family members" Gardiner said.
