New Boardman School Board member announced
Boardman Local Schools welcomed its newest board member at Wednesday night's special meeting.
The Board received applications from 20 interested candidates, and selected Tom Varley to fill the seat vacated after Frank Zetts's resignation.
Varley and his family have lived in Boardman for the last 12 years and three of his children are currently enrolled in the district. Another child graduated from Boardman High School two years ago. He's also active volunteer in school organizations.
According to a release from the district, Varley adds more business experience to the board. He serves as the Director of Human Resources for Compco Industries in Columbiana.
"I am just really excited to be part of this team so that I can experience our incredible school district from every angle," Varley said. "I've been involved in athletic youth programs, boosters, and fundraising for teacher grants. This is an opportunity to work with a group of leaders focused on all of our Spartans' success."
Varley will serve the remainder of Zetts's term until December 31, 2025. In order to continue serving, Varley will have to run in the 2025 general election.
