Big things may be coming to downtown Youngstown for folks looking for something to do on the weekends.

Youngstown City Council is set to vote on an application for a more-than 34-acre designated outdoor refreshment area (DORA) on Aug. 28.

The DORA would span almost the entirety of downtown Youngstown spanning several streets and includes the Youngstown Foundation Ampitheatre.

Here's a quick look at where specifically this DORA would span:

  • East side of south and north Hazel from West Commerce Street to West Boardman Street
  • South side of West Commerce Street from North Hazel Street to Wick Avenue
  • East side of Wick Avenue and Market Street from West Commerce Street to West Boardman Street
  • Both sides of South Phelps from West Boardman Street to the Youngstown Foundation Ampitheatre, and
  • The Youngstown Ampitheatre.

In total, the designated area would be 34.42 acres.

If approved, it would be the largest DORA in the Mahoning Valley, according figures from the Ohio Department of Commerce.

The DORA would be Thursday and Friday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturdays between noon and 11 p.m. and run year-round, according to council documents.

Additionally, special hours will be permitted on holidays, designated in advance by Mayor Tito Brown with the approval of the consent of council.

Since this is just the application to create the DORA, council would need to give it final approval no later than 30 days if this application is approved.

21 News is working to learn when the DORA would go into operation after the application is given final approval.
