Youngstown State University opens its 2024-25 Lecture Series with presentations from two accomplished individuals: tennis champion Venus Williams and science communicator Hank Green.

Venus Williams to Deliver Thomas Colloquium Lecture

Venus Williams, a highly decorated athlete and entrepreneur, will headline the Thomas Colloquium Lecture Series on October 23 at 7 p.m. in the Beeghly Center on the YSU campus.

Williams has achieved remarkable success in tennis, winning seven Grand Slam singles titles, 14 Grand Slam doubles titles and four Olympic gold medals.  She has also pursued other interests, establishing successful design businesses, earning degrees in fashion design and business administration, and launching lines of clean beauty products and plant-based protein.  Actively involved in social causes, Williams has advocated for gender equality and equal pay in sports.

 

Hank Green

 Hank Green Presents Skeggs Lecture

Hank Green, known for his engaging science communication, will present the Skeggs Lecture on September 26 at 6 p.m. in Stambaugh Auditorium.  Green has amassed a large social media following through educational content on topics ranging from biology to astronomy.

Beyond his YouTube channels, Green is a bestselling science fiction author, a media commentator, and the co-founder and CEO of Complexly, which produces popular educational programs.  He is also involved in philanthropic endeavors through his "The Awesome Socks Club" charity.

Free and Open to the Public (Tickets Required)

Both lectures are free and open to the public, but tickets are required.  For the Thomas Colloquium featuring Venus Williams, tickets will be available starting September 16 at the YSU Athletic Ticket Office.  For the Skeggs Lecture featuring Hank Green, tickets can be obtained online through the Stambaugh Auditorium website or at the DeYor Performing Arts Center Box Office.
