Boardman police are investigating an incident where a dog was shot after biting a man while on a walk.

According to the police report, the incident happened Saturday night around 10:38 p.m. in the 900 block of Edenridge Drive. Officers were called to the area after reports of a man screaming and yelling and was believed to be attacked by a dog.

Dispatchers received multiple calls about four to five gunshots in the area with some claiming the dog was dead. Officers on scene found a man with deep lacerations to both forearms and a bite to his face.

The dog was found at the bottom of the driveway dead with gunshot wounds to its face. The animal was shot four times and another spent bullet was underneath its body.

Police say the dog's owner told them she took the dog for a walk and it started acting out over another animal while on the way back to her house. The victim's hand became tangled in the dog's leash and harness, leading to the animal biting him.

Witnesses told police they saw the attack and believed the dog would have killed the victim if the attack continued. Police say another witness tried to apply a belt to the victim's arm to stop the bleeding but blood continued spraying from it.

The man was taken to the hospital for his injuries.

Police say the dog was involved in a prior report from July 20 when another male was bit by it.

No charges have been filed in connection to the incident.
