Warren man convicted of 1995 murder denied parole
A convicted murderer from Trumbull County has been denied parole.
Mitchell Monday, 50, will remain in the Pickaway Correctional Institution serving a 19-and-a-half-year to life prison sentence for the 1995 murder of Mark Dixon.
Monday was convicted and sentenced in May 1995 on charges of murder, aggravated robbery, aggravated arson, kidnapping and having weapons while under disability connected to Dixon's killing.
According to the release, Warren police said Monday was in his Pearl Street home when he shot Dixon in the head and put his body in the back of a van with the help of two women.
At the time of the shooting, Dixon was on house arrest and had the women get rid of Dixon's body in Weathersfield Township.
While moving the body, police said one of the women shot Dixon again, but forensic evidence showed Monday's shot was the one that was fatal.
The Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office said while Monday was in jail, he committed his arson offense by lighting cell block D on fire at the Trumbull County Jail.
Prosecutor Dennis Watkins penned letters opposing Monday's parole, citing infractions of prison rules in 2023 and 2024. Between 2007 and 2019, Monday was written up 36 times and found guilty of 50 infractions of prison rules.
Monday has been denied parole four times in 2009, 2014, 2019, and 2024. He will be eligible for parole again in May 2028.
