The Ohio State Highway Patrol is planning an OVI checkpoint later this week.

The date and location of the checkpoint have not been revealed.

State troopers typically announce the county where the checkpoint will take place the day before and the physical location on the morning of.

OVI checkpoints are funded through federal grants in hopes of deterring impaired drivers.

A 1990 Supreme Court ruling said holding sobriety checkpoints without first notifying drivers would violate the Constitution's provision barring illegal search and seizure.

The ruling did not spell out what was considered an adequate notification.
