A man is dead after a drive-by shooting on Interstate 680 northbound in Youngstown Tuesday afternoon.

Police say a man in his 20s was found dead at the scene inside of a vehicle.

Police believe the driver was shot near the Glenwood and Mahoning exit and the car briefly continued moving down the interstate before coming to a stop near the Mahoning Avenue bridge around 4:15 p.m.

A 21 News crew on the scene found a black Jeep Cherokee with multiple bullet holes in the driver-side window and front windshield. The passenger side window is also shattered.

YPD Captain Jason Simon said he believes the shooting was a targeted attack.

The victim was the only person inside the car at the time and no one else on I-680 was injured.

"We don't know whether they knew each other or not but we do believe this is a directed attack," said Captian Jason Simon. "And as scary as an incident like this is on an interstate and as much collateral damage could have happened, it doesn't appear that happened in this case. We're grateful for that."

No one is in custody as of Tuesday night, but police say they are working a few leads.

I-680 was closed until 6:30 Tuesday evening and has since reopened to traffic.

Flock cameras will soon be installed throughout the city. YPD told 21 News these shootings have led them to add cameras on and around the interstate.

"Just because there are so many entrances and exits along I-680," explained Captain Simon. "There are far more vehicular crashes that happen along that stretch of roadway than shootings. However, it certainly behooves us to put those cameras in place where there's a lot of activity. I-680 goes right through the heart of the city."
