The Democratic National Convention kicked off its first night in Chicago with a story that hits close to home in the valley.

A video segment featuring the closure of the GM factory in Lordstown showed how former President Donald Trump promised to keep the plant open - the plant closed in 2019.

The video also accuses the former president of abandoning the factory, putting thousands of people out of work.

"All those jobs went away," said David B. Green, United Auto Worker's Region 2B director in the video. "He did nothing. He did not do one thing for those workers there. He didn't come to make promises, he came and made false promises."

Following the video Shawn Fain, the UAW president, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. He also accused the former president for being a scab in siding with corporate interests instead of worker's interests.

"On one side, we have Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, who have stood shoulder and shoulder with the working class," Fain said. "On the other side, we have Trump and Vance. Two lap dogs for the billionaire class who only serve themselves."

Chants for "Trumps a scab" echoed throughout the convention while Fain spoke.

"Trump told workers in Lordstown, Ohio, that he'd be bringing all the auto jobs back and Trump did nothing," Fain said. "Talk is cheap."

Meanwhile, he says Biden and Harris fought to bring jobs back to Lordstown.
