A Washingtonville home in the 500 block of West Main Street was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon.

Green Township Fire Chief Todd Baird told 21 News that the 124-year-old home was a total loss.

According to the fire chief, the homeowner's adult son was at home when the fire started, and he was able to escape the blaze with the family's two dogs.

Two neighboring homes received some heat damage from the fire.

At least five fire departments—Green Township, Columbiana, Perry Township, Salem, and Leetonia—helped battle the blaze.

The State Fire Marshal has been called to investigate, and no cause for the fire is currently known.
