Leetonia girl scout's vision for gaga ball pit at Columbiana Middle School becoming reality
Back in March, 21 News reported on a Leetonia girl scout who was looking to raise funds to build a gaga ball pit for students at Columbiana Middle School. Now, that vision is becoming a reality.
21 News caught up with Elizabeth Siembida, who is building the pit as her Gold Award Project. She told us it took a lot of teamwork and help in order for this project to come into fruition.
"I had to raise lots of money and I had to get materials. I went to M.E. Supply and they got me my lumber and then we went to Coach Cliff's [Gaga Ball Pits], that's where I got all my supplies. And then we also went to Amazon for our bench / storage unit," Siembida said.
Gaga ball is a game similar to dodgeball where players gather in a pit and throw a ball and must avoid being struck. Once a player gets struck, they're eliminated.
Siembida's mother Crystal Boggs previously told us Siembida became interested in gaga ball upon discovering it on a girl scout trip and wanted to base her Gold Award Project around it.
Siembida tells 21 News she's happy her project could provide fun and entertainment for students at Columbiana Middle School for years to come.
"I know that this is a fun game to play and I think the kids are really going to enjoy it," Siembida said.
Siembida tells us she does not have a time frame for when the gaga ball pit will be completed and ready to use, but she hopes for it to be ready in time for the start of the school year.
