SNAP recipients whose food spoiled during power outage may be entitled to replacements
If you receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and had your food spoiled during the power outages caused by severe weather in the Valley, you may be entitled to replacements.
According to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (JFS), households that lost food purchased with SNAP benefits due to a power outage of four hours or longer can apply to receive replacement benefits for the amount of food lost as long it does not exceed their monthly allotment.
Replacement benefits will be added to the recipient's Ohio Direction Card.
Impacted households must complete JFS Form 07222 within 10 days of the loss and submit it to their County JFS department who will verify the extended outage before replacing the benefits.
Anyone who experienced an outage of four hours or longer are encouraged to provide verification of the extended outage including screenshots of news reports, text or email alerts or outage maps showing their specific area without power for four hours or longer.
