For more than a year, there's been an ongoing project at the Columbiana Football Stadium to give the area a bit of a face lift.

"The stadium itself was deteriorating," Columbiana City Manager Lance Willard said. "It'd been over 20 years since we had done anything major with it," he said.

Construction workers could be seen replacing old bleachers with brand new ones. It's a multi-million dollar project that would make Friday night football a more comfortable experience.

There are also plans to pave the track, but underneath the ground there's an old sewage line that may require some attention in the future.

"There's an aging sewer line there, probably over 80 years old underneath there that needs replaced eventually," Willard said.

The line is right where the track would be. Willard said this particular line isn't a top priority, as many other lines in the city are even worse.

"Everybody hates projects where you pave over something new, you put new sidewalks in and all of a sudden you come back next year and dig it up," Willard said. "Right now we don't have it in the budget," he said.

Willard tells 21 News the line would cost more than $100,000 to replace, so for now it'll have to wait while other infrastructure is being repaired.

The project is set to be complete before the first home game on August 30th. Willard tells 21 News if they ever do have to come back and revisit the sewer line it will not effect the work that was done to the bleachers.
