Appeal denied for Girard man convicted in child rape case
The appeal of a Girard man convicted in a child rape case back in 2023 has been denied.
According to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office, the appeal of 25-year-old Jack Zeigler has been denied. Zeigler was sentenced to 10 years to life in prison on charges of rape, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, gross sexual imposition and compelling prostitution.
Zeigler appealed his sentence with his attorneys claiming the court erred in deeming him competent to stand trial when he had an IQ of 62. However, the Ohio 11th District Court of Appeals found this claim to be without merit.
According to Zeigler's indictment, his crimes took place between January of 2021 and July of 2022 and involved him touching a 12-year-old boy's genitals and in some cases offering payment to his victims for sexual acts.
