A jury has convicted a 20-year-old Columbus man of murdering Youngstown State University honors student Kevin Sobnosky.

The verdict was returned on Monday in Franklin County Common Pleas Court in the case of Keimariyon Malachi Demetrish Ross.

A valedictorian at Girard High School and a standout athlete, Sobnosky was 21 years old when he was shot and killed at a Sheetz gas station on North Cassady Avenue in Columbus on October 30, 2022.

At the time of his death, Sobnosky was months away from obtaining a bachelor's degree in Computer Science at YSU.

Police say Sobnosky was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

A second suspect in the case, 20-year-old Tyyaun Sullivan is serving a nine year prison sentence after being convicted of felonious assault, discharging a firearm at a habitation, and a weapons charge.

Ross will be sentenced on September 5.
