State Route 7 at Mingo Junction in Jefferson County has been closed in both directions due to "a significant rockfall."

According to a press release from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), this location is the site of an ongoing rockfall remediation project in this area. ODOT says that blasting is utilized weekly for the purposes of excavation, but say that today's blasting caused "more material to fall than anticipated," resulting in significant rockfall onto both lanes of State Route 7.

Crews are working to remove the rock and restore the work zone. Additionally, pavement repairs that may be needed will be completed prior to reopening the road.

The timeframe of how long Route 7 will be closed in Mingo Junction is currently unknown.

The estimated completion date for the ongoing remediation project is June 30, 2025.
