Two Sharon women are accused of endangering children after police say two children aged four and five years old ingested nearly an entire package of edible THC candies.

According to the criminal complaint, both 33-year-old Cassandra Gera and 26-year-old Charyssa Gera are charged with one count each of endangering children.

Cassandra is facing three more charges including aggravated assault of a victim less than 13 years old, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The charges stem from an incident back in June when police responded to an apartment on the 300 Block of Sterling Avenue for a poisoning call with two children unconscious.

When they got there, police observed vomit on the floor of a bedroom where the children were found, as well as the bathroom. Officers deployed several doses of Narcan to the children.

Police say the sisters told police they did not know what the children had taken.

According to the criminal complaint, a search of the bedroom revealed two marijuana blunts, as well as suspected marijuana in packaging on nightstand and a large amount of opened small balloons commonly used for packaging narcotics.

A search warrant was later conducted in the apartment, which revealed even more marijuana products in the home. Among these was a package found in the children's bedroom of "Nerds" style candy containing THC.

According to the complaint, it appeared that the children had nearly ingested the whole package since the package was mostly empty.

Following the search, police went to the hospital to speak with the siblings.

When asked about the marijuana products found in the apartment, the siblings told officers they got it from a medicinal marijuana dispensary during a trip to Michigan because Charyssa has a medical marijuana card.

When asked about the THC candy, Cassandra told police she got them from a friend and that there was an open package of the candy on a desk in the living room.

Police say Charyssa told officers she also knew about the candies, but did not see the bag on the day of the incident. She told officers the children had been out of her and her sister's view for about five minutes.

According to the criminal complaint, the children were life flighted to Pittsburgh for further treatment with both being admitted in the ICU due to respiratory distress.

Both sisters were arraigned on their charges on Thursday, July 18 and are both due back in court August 2 for a preliminary hearing.
