Support grows for family of Slippery Rock Twp. crash victims
Support is rapidly growing for one Portersville family affected by Saturday's fatal car crash in Slippery Rock Township.
The family of a young girl who is the sole survivor of the car crash tells 21 News she is expected to spend the next several months in the hospital.
The incident happened on State Route 65 in Slippery Rock Township near Hogue Road around 12:31 a.m., according to a report from the Pennsylvania State Police. The family's SUV crossed the center line going southbound on the road, hitting two utility poles before striking a parked car. The vehicle then went airborne, hitting a tree before landing.
The Lawrence County Coroner identified the victims as Nathan Bogacki, 44, Emma Bogacki, 17, and Grant Bogacki, 13.
10-year-old Aubrey Bogacki remains at UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh for advanced medical treatment, according to David Syka, the children's uncle.
"Aubrey is a fighter," Syka told 21 News via Zoom while at UPMC Children's Hospital on Monday. "She is going to make it out of this. It is going to be a long process from here but she is going to pull through."
The children's mother and Nathan's wife, Nicole Bogacki was not in the vehicle.
Syka said the family has received private Venmo's and fundraising support from t-shirts and bracelets. A cornhole company has also created a fundraiser for the family.
"The support our family is receiving is overwhelming," Syka said. "Words can't even describe how grateful we are. Never in a million years would I have thought this support would come for our family. It's incredible."
"We've collected over 1,500 E-cards from all over the world that the hospital prints out for Aubrey," Syka said. "We've been collecting them and ran out of binders for her. We plan to read them to her when she wakes up."
"People have sent so much food to the family," Skya said. "We aren't home to eat it but people send food for an army. We are very grateful."
Investigators are still looking into the cause of the accident.
