The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission is warning drivers that use the turnpike of resurgence in fraud texts asking for payment on unpaid tolls.

E-ZPass customers are not asked to make payments via text and collection of unpaid tolls or toll violations don't happen through text, the commission says.

The only links that are associated with the Ohio Turnpike's E-ZPass accounts are ezpassoh.com and ohioturnpike.org.

Customers should ignore and delete these smishing and phishing scams from their phone and email accounts as soon as they get them.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, Ohio ranked 26th nationally for fraud-related reports in 2023.

While fraud reports only rose by approximately 4,000, financial losses did skyrocket by 13.9% compared to 2022, according to the Ohio Department of Commerce.
