Car and custom bike show to raise funds for Veteran's Outreach Mahoning Valley

While checking out classic cars, muscle cars, and hot rods at the 12th annual Armstrong Street Scene Car and Custom Bike show at Austintown Park, the show's sponsor, reminds us it's important to reflect on those who have sacrificed for our country and extend a hand up to them.
That's why money raised from the event, door prizes and 50/50 raffle is being given to Veterans Outreach of the Mahoning Valley.
"Veterans play such an important role in our lives, in our communities. We wanted to help our veterans who are a little less fortunate, who have run into rough times," Armstrong Community Marketing and Local Programming Manager, Greg Rhoton said.
That organization helps by providing financial assistance in times of need.
The Disabled American Veterans, DAV, which provides wheelchairs and scooters to Veterans for free, was also here raising funds.
"They don't qualify through the Veterans Administration. The batteries require two each so we're out here trying to raise money because we get no help from the government whatsoever," VSC Commissioner Dale Barringer said.
A veteran who is 100 percent disabled tells us at times he could only move a few inches at a time, and the gift of mobility through the DAV is life-changing.
"For some reason, it shifts the weight and reduces the pain so I can go anywhere I want, any time I want now," Michael Briceland who served in the U.S. Army said.
That group also helps feed veterans delivering food bags to 35 veterans and civilian shut-ins.
"We do the food drive once a month and we also do pinning programs in nursing homes and we do honor guards, and color guards," Bob Cooper, Treasurer of DAV Chapter 2, said.
