Two adults, child from Quebec killed in crash near Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport
The pilot and passengers killed when a twin-engine engine plane crashed near the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport on Friday have been identified as two adults and a child from Quebec, Canada.
The pilot was identified as Jawdat Khawam, 54 years old. The two passengers were identified as Martine Arseneault, 45, and Daphne Khawam, 8. All three were from Laval, Quebec, which is near Montreal.
Khawam was the President and CEO of Uandmycar.com, the owner of the Beechcraft BE-60.
The plane took off from Plattsburgh, NY International Airport about two hours before crashing while attempting an emergency landing.
National Transportation Safety Board investigators were at the crash site in Fowler Township on Saturday to document the burned wreckage and evaluate what they found.
The NTSB said it is evaluating several factors that may have caused the accident including the pilot, the aircraft, and the operating environment. This means they will be looking at the flight track data, recordings of any air traffic communications, aircraft maintenance records, and more.
The NTSB adds that while it's not the definite cause - the pilot reported a loss of power to the engine, which may have played a role in the crash.
A preliminary report from the NTSB is expected to be prepared within 30 days.
They join the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Federal Aviation Administration investigating the incident.
Dispatchers got a call just after 7 p.m. Friday that the plane had crashed at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station near state Route 11 and King Graves Road.
The plane was reportedly attempting to make an emergency landing before the crash at the end of Runway 14 at the airport.
Records show that this plane was built in 1977.
Photos provided by a witness show the plane’s wreckage in flames.
