The Salvation Army of Mahoning County is hoping to spread some Christmas cheer to Valley residents this summer.

The non-profit organization is hosting a 'Christmas in July' event on Saturday, July 20 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Salvation Army's Youngstown location.

During the event, the Salvation Army will give away free Christmas decorations to the community while supplies last.

"We see an increase in donations in the Spring as people begin cleaning out their homes. We realized we were amassing quite a bit of Christmas decorations," says Jennifer Hanigosky, Director of Programs and Operations at the Salvation Army of Mahoning County. "We wanted to share a day of Joy with the community. What better way than to celebrate the holiday a little early."

The Salvation Army is partnering with Little Caesar’s Love Kitchen to pass out free pizza during the event.

Hanigosky explained in a statement that this event will help to provide decorations to households that may not have the means to purchase or decorate for the holiday, as well as help provide a meal to families that may be low on food supply in their home or struggling to pay for necessities such as medications, food, and clothing.

"The goal is letting the community know we are here for them and that hope begins at The Salvation Army Service and Worship Center," says Hanigosky.
