Rite Aid Corporation announced on Monday that a data breach has compromised some of its customer’s personal information.

According to a news release from the pharmacy chain, on June 6, 2024, someone impersonated a company employee to gain access to some of Rite Aid’s business systems.

The company says the incident was discovered within 12 hours and immediately launched an investigation to halt unauthorized access, remediate affected systems, and find out if any customer data was impacted.

The breach was also reported the incident to law enforcement, as well as federal and state regulators.

The company says that data breach is associated with the purchase or attempted purchase of specific retail products.

The data included the purchaser's name, address, date of birth, and driver’s license number or other form of government-issued ID presented at the time of purchase between June 6, 2017, and July 30, 2018.

Rite Aid emphasizes that no social security numbers, financial information or patient information was impacted by the incident.

Letters are being mailed to any potentially affected consumer who was associated with a mailing address in the company systems.
