Water main break leads to gas leak in Weathersfield Township
Crews with the Weathersfield Fire Department and the EPA are responding to the scene of a gas leak Thursday evening.
Trumbull County Dispatchers confirmed with 21 News that a gas leak is being investigated on Robbins Avenue with Weathersfield Fire and EPA crews on scene.
Crews are on scene near the McDonald's and BP Gas Station near Youngstown-Warren Road, North State Street and Tibbetts Wick Road.
This comes about two hours after an alert was sent stating Robbins Avenue was closed between Bellwood and Route 422 due to a water main break. Firefighters on scene confirmed that this water main break was what led to the gas leak.
Crews say the EPA had been called out to inspect the scene and the leak was determined to be miniscule.
The surrounding area is still blocked off for the time being because crews believe the water main may have caused erosion under the road, so water crews from Girard need to fix that.
Drivers should avoid the area for the time being.
