Man arrested as police investigate shots fired in Austintown neighborhood
A man has been arrested after allegedly being involved in an altercation in Austintown in April involving juveniles.
Jason Goodspeed, 40, was arrested Wednesday and charged with improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, discharging a firearm near a prohibited public area, and aggravated menacing.
According to a police report, Austintown Police (APD) responded to North Edgehill Avenue on the evening of April 30, 2024, after a reported shooting.
Witnesses to the incident stated that Goodspeed's son was involved in an altercation with another juvenile. The son left the premises, promising to return with his father.
Police say Jason Goodspeed arrived with his son at the premises 10 minutes later in his black Chevrolet Malibu, where he allegedly began an altercation with another resident. One witness stated she noticed Goodspeed had a firearm in his waistband.
Police say Goodspeed left in his vehicle moments later and turned east onto Maple Avenue, where he came to a stop.
One witness stated that Goodspeed proceeded to brandish a firearm out of the drivers side window and fire multiple rounds into the air, before fleeing east on Maple Avenue.
No individuals were struck by gunfire and police did not find any damage to homes or vehicles.
APD located five 9mm bullet casings on Maple Avenue near N. Edgehill Ave where Goodspeed had previously stopped.
On May 3, a warrant was opened for Goodspeed's arrest. He was taken into custody by APD and booked into the Mahoning County Justice Center on July 10.
Goodspeed has previously been charged with domestic violence and child endangering.
An arraignment date has been scheduled for Monday, July 15.
