The City of Niles is waging war on those pesky summertime mosquitoes.

City officials announced plans to conduct mosquito spraying on Thursday evening and throughout the night.

Although a notice from the city asks residents to be aware of open windows, pets outside, and outdoor activity, the Centers for Disease Control says spraying is safe when applied by a licensed vector control professional who follows label instructions.

If you prefer to stay inside and close windows and doors, you can, but it isn't necessary, according to the CDC.

The CDC also says the spray does not harm pets, but you may choose to bring them inside when spraying occurs.
