Police in Brookfield are investigating after several homeowners in Masury called regarding some sort of blast that caused windows to break for at least six people.

According to Brookfield Police Chief Aaron Kasiewicz, the incident happened around 10:45 p.m. on the Fourth of July on the 7900 Block of Bud Street in Masury when people were shooting off fireworks.

Since then, police received several calls from the neighborhood regarding broken windows.

Nick Bich was sleeping when the explosion occurred but noticed his window broken the next morning.

"I noticed glass all over my floor," Bich said. "I was dumbfounded at first, I didn’t know what I was looking at, all these shards. I finally realized it was broke and I started looking around for a stone or rock, something, didn’t find nothing."

Bich went to talk to a neighbor who told him about the explosion.

Chief Kasiewicz says the investigation is ongoing and it is unclear what caused the blast, but an explosion of this magnitude would not have happened from an ordinary firework. This would had to have been a modified firework or a homemade explosive device.

"I’ve had people tell me that it was felt up to and over a half a mile away, Ohio street, my one neighbors daughter lives on and she felt the house shake," Bich said.

Chief Kasiewicz says police do have a suspect in mind, but no charges have been filed yet. Charges could be filed pending the results of the investigation.

Bich, who wants the person or people responsible to pay for the damage said he's hosting a neighborhood meeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. at 7906 Budd St. in Masury.
