The City of Youngstown approved more funding to replace a faulty fire escape in City Hall after facing months of delays.

The new funding brings the total for the project over $1 million.

Originally, the cost of the project was estimated to be $250,000.

City leaders said the project faced delays because of problems with the building's foundation which also required extra money to fix.

"The extra cost came in from removing some existing foundations, revised drawings on the fire escape and some additional work they're doing on the facade of the building to put new attachment points to the new design," Chuck Shasho, Youngstown's Deputy Director of Public Works said.

The fire escape was last updated in the 1980s and didn't meet code.

That led to building capacity being limited since Spring 2023.

Shasho said the project is expected to be complete in August.
