A recommendation to install traffic lights at three Warren intersections has been rejected by the city's traffic commission.

The intersections are at Todd Avenue and Palmyra Road, Parkman Road, Denison Drive, and Northwest Boulevard, and East Market Street and Country Club Drive.

All of these intersections have garnered public outcry for being considered dangerous.

However, that's not true, according to Councilman Greg Greathouse, citing data collected 10 years before and three years after the traffic lights were removed.

That data shows that in the 10 years before the lights were removed at East Market Street and Country Club Drive, that intersection averaged 2.4 accidents every year.

Now, with three and a half years of data after the lights were removed - the intersection has seen 2 accidents a year.

On Tod Avenue and Palmyra, the ten years before the traffic lights were removed there were 36 accidents - a 3.6 average. Following the removal of the lights, the accidents dropped by .3 percent to a 3.3 yearly average.

For Parkman Road and Denison Drive/Northwest Boulevard, there were 17 accidents over 10 years. In the last three and a half, there have only been two, according to data provided by Greathouse.

21 News pointed out to Greathouse that the data set for the accidents before the lights were removed is much larger than the data collected after the lights were removed.

He said that the trends still pointed to it being lower than before the lights were removed.

Greathouse adds that the proposal for traffic lights at these intersections could still move forward but it's unclear how successful it will be.

21 News has reached out to Councilwoman Tiffany Stanford, who proposed the motion, for comment on what she plans to do next.
