Police investigating after Youngstown barber shop shot up
Police in Youngstown are investigating after a barber shop was shot up in the city early Tuesday morning.
According to the police report, the call came in just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday reporting gunshots heard in an area of Mahoning Avenue. When police arrived, they found 12 spent shell casings outside of a barber shop in the area.
Police spoke with staff at a neighboring business who told them they heard what sounded like a tire blowing out, but when they looked outside, they saw the barber shop getting shot up.
The witnesses did not get a good look at the vehicle or who was shooting.
Police checked surveillance camera footage, which showed a flash of light coming from behind the barber shop followed by a dark-colored car, possibly a Mercedes, with a sunroof turn off of West Heights onto Mahoning Avenue, stop in front of the barber shop, open the driver's side door and fire several shots at the building.
The vehicle then headed eastbound. Police were not able to identify the license plate from the video.
Police spoke with the owner of the barber shop who told officers the camera directly behind the building was cut, the light was pulled out and some sort of explosive was shoved into the security door.
Police say no damage was done to the door.
No arrests have been made and no suspects have been named at this time.
