UPDATE: 'Stress relieving' edibles recalled after illnesses reported in Ohio, Pennsylvania, 22 other states
A company that makes edibles that purports to help relieve stress has issued a recall of those products following a possible link between them and 48 illnesses reported in 24 states including two cases in Ohio and two in Pennsylvania.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that Prophet Premium Blends of Santa Ana, California is recalling Diamond Shruumz Infused Cones, Chocolate Bars, and Gummies.
As of Monday, the FDA reported that 46 of the 48 people who became ill sought medical care. Twenty-seven have been hospitalized. There is one potentially associated death under investigation, according to the FDA.
The recalled items contain Muscimol, a chemical found in mushrooms that could be a potential cause of symptoms similar to those experienced by those who became ill after eating Diamond Shruumz products.
Reported symptoms have included those linked to seizures, agitation, involuntary muscle contractions, loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness, nausea and vomiting, abnormal heart rates, and hyper/hypotension.
After a review of the products’ ingredients showed higher than normal amounts of Muscimol, the company issued the recall and stopped production and distribution of the Diamond Shruumz product line.
The FDA and Prophet Premium Blends are investigating what caused the serious adverse effects.
Anyone who bought Diamond Shruumz products is urged to stop their use and destroy the product.
Customers may contact Prophet Premium Blends at (209) 314-0881 or by email at [email protected] with their order number to initiate the refund.
