Police in Youngstown are investigating after they say a man was hit in the head and back with a hammer Saturday afternoon.

According to the report, police were called to a home on East Philadelphia Avenue for an assault report.

When they got there, police spoke to the victim who said he was at the Shell Gas Station on Market Street when an unknown female came up to him and asked him for help pumping gas.

Police say when the victim started to pump the gas, a gold Chrysler 300 pulled up behind him and a man came out possibly on a FaceTime call asking his mom "if this was the guy."

Police say the man proceeded to strike the victim in the head and back with a hammer, and when the victim tried to run away, the gold Chrysler followed him until he arrived at his home to call for help.

When asked about any possible motivation, police say the victim mentioned an incident from June 20 at a business on South Avenue when a woman was shaking her buttocks near his groin area and she became upset with him when he grabbed it.

The victim believes the assault to have been connected to that incident.

The victim was transported to the hospital for his injuries. No arrests have been made at this time.
