United Returning Citizens (URC) and Oh WOW held a Get Moving Mental Health Walk and Run at Wean Park.

The event is to get people moving physically so they feel better about themselves and life, and to let folks who are returning to their communities there's help available so they can work to live their best lives.

"We got Stepping Up doing some line dancing. We got games, and kids activities out here. We got all the resources, tables that we encourage people to stop at, and we got free food down here," NinaShutack, ReEntry Social Worker and Event Coordinator said.

The event also spreads the word there is help for folks exiting jail and prison so they can build better lives.

The Executive Director tells us URC partners with Mahoning Valley Manufacturing Coalition, Workforce, Mental Health providers, and many organizations to help folks returning home.

"We do mental health, we do housing, we do workforce, we do expungements. If you need your birth certificate or ID we do that. We do entrepreneurship. We help support non-profits," said Dionne Lacey, Executive Director of United Returning Citizens.

Carshara Bradley was incarcerated for two years, and now dedicates her life to helping others who were in prison, to open doors to find housing, and opportunities.

She didn't have this type of help and had to make her own way with help from some other people.

The co-founders were just starting this non-profit when she got out in 2013.

Her life is a success story.

"No matter what you've been through, anything in your past doesn't have to define where you're going. So now I'm the Housing Specialist for  URC, I'm a Youth Mentor in Youngstown City Schools," Bradley explained.

URC United Returning Citizens says if your returning from a divorce, from the military or even a job transition they can link you up with resources that could help.

The non-profit judges one on abilities not one's past, and it's website states fresh starts begin here.
