The Autism Society of Mahoning Valley (ASMV) has announced its new Career Exploration Week as an addition to its annual Camp F.R.I.E.N.D. summer program.

In collaboration with Vista AST, a component of the Youngstown Business Incubator, ASMV will offer a specialized curriculum focused on developing critical career adaptability skills for young adults with autism aged 18-25.

"We are thrilled to expand Camp with this transformative program designed to bridge the gap between education and employment for our young adults on the autism spectrum," said Robin Suzelis, Director of ASMV. "By providing hands-on experience across various employment sectors, we aim to enhance their job readiness and empower them to thrive in the workforce."

Founded in 2014, Camp F.R.I.E.N.D.: Finding Rewards In Every New Day became the first program in the Mahoning Valley to offer an inclusive day camp experience for students with autism and their friends.

The Career Exploration Week, scheduled for August 5-9, will accommodate 18 participants. It will be facilitated by autism educator Jennifer Groce from Potential Development. The events will take place at Vista AST’s new discovery space at 265 W. Federal Street in Downtown Youngstown.

Participants will engage in interactive learning experiences guided by Vista AST interns and ASMV's support staff. The curriculum will cultivate essential skills such as design thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and creativity while introducing participants to digital equipment and technical resources.

Limited spots are available. Registration will be open until Monday, July 15.
