Mercer County Food Bank has announced its latest effort to curb summer hunger in the Shenango Valley.

Starting Friday, June 21 at The Block by Nova, Mercer County Food Bank will kick of its "Sizzlin' Summer Series" in order to raise funds to combat summer hunger.

Between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Friday, The Block by Nova will be donating 15% of the evening's proceeds from Tiki Trivia as well as additional proceeds from the sale of specialty drinks to the cause.

If you can't make it out to Tiki Trivia, you can head over to Vey's Pub & Grille Thursday, July 25 for their Christmas in July event, which includes photos by donation with the Grinch or Talbot's Taproom and Terrace Saturday, August 10 for a cornhole tournament.

Anyone interested in the cornhole tournament is encouraged to sign up now since the event is limited to the first 20 teams. To register, you can call 724-981-0353 ext. 103. Registration is $20 per team.

According to a press release, a study from Feeding America Shows 4,390 children in Mercer County (nearly 21% of residents under 18) struggle with food insecurity every day.

For every $1 donated, Mercer County Food Bank can provide four meals to those experiencing food insecurity.
