EDITOR'S NOTE: This story has been modified to correct the amount for the bond levy

Canfield Local Schools is in the process of getting a bond levy to reconstruct Canfield Village Middle School on the November 5 ballot.

During its meeting June 12, the Canfield Local Schools Board of Education approved the Resolution of Necessity for the $64,190,000 bond levy, initiating the process of getting it on the ballot.

From there, the Board will vote on the Resolution to proceed with the bond levy at their July 10 meeting, which would formally advance the issue to the ballot in November.

If approved, the levy will support the reconstruction of Canfield Village Middle School and renovations to C.H. Campbell Elementary, Hilltop Elementary and Canfield High School.

This will be the district's third attempt at getting a levy to renovate its schools passed with voters striking it down twice in the past, most recently in November of 2023.

In addition, the district is allocating roughly $3 million in the summer to improve school facilities.

These improvements include the installation of secure vestibules at the elementary schools, roofing enhancements at the high school, air conditioning for C.H. Campbell, paving upgrades for the high school parking lot and updates to the baseball and softball field and tennis courts.

These projects are funded through a combination of permanent improvement levy funds, general fund carryover funds and school improvement notes.

"This summer, we will invest in our facilities, with improvement projects occurring at our elementary schools and Canfield High School. With a bond issue on
the horizon, focused on Canfield Village Middle School, we are committed to responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources while meeting the needs of our district," said Superintendent Joe Knoll.
